The chapter begins not with the main characters themselves, but with a few pages depicting the romance of two supporting characters in the story, Kageyama and Kuga. The chapter was mainly about the beginnings of their inconvenient relationship, but aren’t all the relationships that matter to us, when simplified and rationalized, are basically inconvenient? And yet we keep such relationships close to our hearts, despite the trouble, despite the inconvenience. As expected, the focal point of the story is the romance between Yashiro and Doumeki, and yet, the manga tells us much more than that already at such an early stage. Unlike most yaoi manga, Saezuru seems to be very human, banked on the nuances of the everyday happenings in the characters’ lives.
